‘Buildings’ is a 300 page monograph for Sergison Bates architects.
The book features eight case study buildings and organises the content into four sections: Texts, Intentions, Impressions and Catalogue. Central to the concept was the commissioning of the photography of eight buildings as one body of work.
The photography of the completed buildings, by David Grandorge, is allowed to flow, almost like a photographers’ monograph which creates striking and uninterrupted atmospheres of Sergison Bates unique architecture. This is combined with a beautiful collection of drawings and sketches revealing the working process of the practice.
The physical form of the book was an important part of the concept. It is designed as a brick-like object with a hard cover, wrapped in a textured paper and trimmed flush to expose millboard edges.
The monograph is the latest project for Sergison Bates architects in our long standing and fruitful collaborative relationship.
Buildings is printed in English and German editions and is published by Swiss publishers Quart Verlag.
