We were commissioned by the Design Council to design a publication entitled: The Business of Design, which presents the results of an extensive survey of the design industry.
We developed a simple typographic grid and range of chart styles to present the complex data in a simple and clear way, allowing readers to use the document either as an in-depth reference book or as a skim-read for the key findings.
Quotes from people working in the industry are displayed in handwriting to bring a human angle, and a section at the back of the book highlights the regional differences brought to light by the survey, with the twelve regions of the UK presented as graphic, flat colour shapes to bring a playful, colourful edge to what could otherwise have become a heavy facts and figures document.
The audience of the publication primarily consisted of designers and those connected with the design industry.
