Brick-work: Thinking & Making is a book examining Sergison Bates architects’ use of brick in their buildings which, although traditional, is an unfashionable material in contemporary architecture. The book contains three essays on the subject and eight case studies consisting of model photographs and construction drawings.
The design is very simple, using subtle monotone colours. The use of short pages act as a navigational device to divide case studies and to separate construction drawings from photography.
The book is a theoretical document aimed at architectural students and is intended as an antidote to the ‘glossy monograph’. Brick-work is published by GTA, Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture, ETH Zürich.
