The WLE Centre is a work-based learning research space and TV studio within the Institute of Education, London. We were commissioned
to create a series of environmental graphics to give the Centre a visual presence within the Institute and
also to humanise the internal studio spaces.
We developed a content-driven, typographic approach enhanced through different production methods. Bold, overlapping words and coloured forms symbolise the blurring of boundaries between working, learning and educating. Large scale, bespoke lightboxes highlight the disciplines that drive the Centre’s work and create a dramatic visual statement.
Sound baffles in recording studios inspired installations in the office spaces, incorporating carefully selected quotes on floating metal panels. Inspirational words by a renowned academic appear on a mezzanine wall at the physical heart
of the Centre.
We also developed the static
graphics of the exterior wall into
a fluid animated loop for use on moving image learning material
and computer screensavers.
