Bruce Nauman is one of the most influential artists at work today. His pioneering explorations of sculpture, performance, film, video and sound have broken new ground and inspired innumerable artistic careers. We were commissioned to design the exhibition catalogue and marketing material for Nauman’s Raw Materials installation
at the Tate Modern which was the fifth Unilever Series commission in the Turbine Hall.
We worked closely with both the artist and the Tate Modern curatorial team to conceptualise, design, edit and produce the catalogue which documents the show. This was an interesting challenge as the installation consisted entirely of sound – Nauman chose twenty spoken audio works for the installation.
We documented the audio works as beautiful typographic pieces, evoking the rhythm of the delivery and capturing nuances and inflections
of the spoken words.
In addition to the catalogue we
also designed interpretation leaflets, panels and marketing material consisting of invitations to private viewings, a poster campaign, press ads, postcards, banners and CD packaging.
